The Boulder Ballet School (BBS) offers ballet instruction for individuals of all ages, from preschool children to adults, within an environment that fosters artistic and creative expression. As a school with a professional focus, BBS supports students aiming for a dance career while also welcoming those who dance for the sheer joy of it. Emphasizing ballet technique, BBS appreciates ballet as a beautiful art form and a solid foundation for various other dance styles.
Boulder Ballet School has successfully assembled a distinguished faculty with global performance and teaching experience. The school’s seven-level curriculum is crafted to develop well-rounded dancers who excel not only in technical skills but also in expressive performance. Classical ballet training is enriched with contemporary, modern, and dance wellness practices to equip students for the diverse artistic demands of professional dance careers.
Boulder Ballet traces its roots to Ballet Arts Studios, established in Denver and Boulder by Larry Boyette, a former American Ballet Theatre dancer, in the 1970s. In 1982, Barbara Demaree and Wanda Tierney took over the Boulder studio, founding the first performing company initially known as Boulder City Ballet. By 1995, both the company and the school adopted the name Boulder Ballet.
